(Yummus at Marche St. George)
It’s my pleasure to be able to announce my third collaboration with an amazing foodperson (we won’t use the word foodie on the blog) at The Chinatown Experiment on Columbia St. Last September, I hosted the Black Lodge Diner, and the inaugural event at TCE, back when Sunday Morning Ice Cream was barely knee-high to a grasshopper. We decked out the room in red velvet, chevron floors and Angelo Badalamenti tunes, and served up cherry pie, Panoramic Roasters pourover coffee, and Sunday Morning brown butter and pecan ice cream. In December, Maya Sciarretta from Sugo Sauce invited me to be a part of her weeklong Sugo Sauce-y Pop-Up Spot, and we sold pints of Sunday Morning Ice Cream all week (in December, no less!) and culminated in a North American-Italian style dinner and dessert service. For Maya, I put together a sundae bar inspired in equal parts by traditional Italians flavours, and Jersey Shore ‘flava’.
Chances are you’ve already spotted the Yummus, pictured above, at either Harvest Community Foods or Marche St. George (where the photo was taken). If not, it’s also possible you know Yashar from his on-going series of weekly dinners, known as Dinner Project YVR. Aside from being a genuinely awesome and super-nice guy, Yashar is seriously serious about his hummus, and that’s reflected in the quality of his product Yummus.

The weekend of May 3 to 5 will see the ShwayShway Cafe pop up in The Chinatown Experiment (434 Columbia St.), a Persian-style cafe with a la carte lunch service and pantry/freezer shopping during the days, and ticketed long-table dinners in the evenings. The nightly dinners will feature Yashar’s considerable cooking prowess, and a dessert course from Sunday Morning Ice Cream, as well as Persian tea, drinks and complimentary hookah! I spent most of my teenage and college years forming friendships over a post-dinner hookah, music and chatter, so I’m especially excited to see it at the long-table dinners at ShwayShway Cafe.
Sunday Morning will have pints ($10) and cups ($4) of ice cream available in the Cafe every day during the event, and we’ll be putting together a dessert course for each of the long-table dinners. You can expect 2 custom flavors from us for the ShwayShway Cafe, as well as a couple all-time favorites.
Hope to see you guys down there! All details are listed below.
Tickets for the long-table dinners are available at EVENTBRITE (click to follow).
